"In these turbulent times, when art and culture can't be displayed to the public as they once used to, we chose to set the stage a little differently and bring artists and their work to the public through digital media. We all hope that very soon you can visit the artists in-person, at their studios across the Galilee. Most artists also offer fun and creative workshops."
Michal Shiloah Galnoor – CEO
"The online exhibition FACE to TIME is a production of The Space Gallery, alongside its regular showcasing of Western Galilee artists. This project was created in response to the new, broadly abnormal reality. Now, that art & culture went into hibernation, physically detached from viewers, repressed from public consciousness and placed somewhere at the bottom of social priorities, we decided (like many other cultural institutions worldwide) to create an additional platform for WGN's artists to share their work, their world and the way in which each one of them deals with this new reality: life and art during Covid19, social distancing and financial & social instability.
This current time we're in forces us to forgo the public space and retreat inside, to the home and studio. While city streets are empty, creation undergoes a process of reconnecting within, where there is no need for masks, and one can be revealed. The current exhibition offers not just information about artistic creations but also a glimpse into the work of a large group of Galilean artists and their rich world of color and materials.
This exhibition will reveal a spectrum of creative approaches: traditional and current. Works of art that preserve traditional techniques alongside contemporary art searching for new ways of expression. This time, the creations are accompanied by introductory texts written by the artists, representing reality.
Above all, we are happy for this opportunity to view and enjoy art created here, in the Western Galilee, despite all the setbacks of this complex recent time we're all experiencing and with hope for a normal future just a short distance away, where we'll all meet in the Galilee, in Old Akko's alleys, at The Space Gallery and the Visitor Center."
